Learn piano online for free with your digital piano
Pianolus is a free website that turns your own digital piano or MIDI keyboard into a piano teacher. Plug it in with a USB cable, open pianolus.com in Chrome, and every key you press shows up on the screen. Pianolus checks your notes, waits for you when you are unsure, and tells you how well you played.
What you need
- A digital piano or keyboard with a USB port (“USB to Host”) or MIDI out. Yamaha, Casio, Roland, Kawai, Korg and most other brands work.
- A USB cable. On an Android phone or tablet, use a USB-C OTG adapter or a USB-C to USB-B cable.
- Google Chrome or another Chromium browser (Edge, Opera, Samsung Internet) on Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS or Android.
How to connect your piano
- Turn on the piano and connect it to your computer, phone or tablet with the USB cable.
- Open pianolus.com and tap “Connect piano”.
- Allow access to MIDI devices when the browser asks. The button then shows the name of your piano.
- Pick a lesson or a song and start playing. Chrome remembers your piano next time.
What makes it different
- Completely free, with no account, no subscription and no ads.
- Wait mode: the music stops until you press the right keys, so you can learn at your own pace.
- Practise each hand on its own, slow down to 25% speed, and let Pianolus play the other hand for you.
- A step-by-step course of 45 lessons, plus classical pieces, folk songs and holiday songs.
- Your progress and your own songs stay on your device. Nothing is uploaded.
No piano with you?
You can still practise: tap the keys on the screen, or use your computer keyboard (A to ; plays the white keys, Z and X change octave).
